Giant Panda Trip - 24th November 2009

Hi everyone, wang wang picture 131 copy

Well today was an adventure! We performed the general anaesthetic on both Wang Wang and Funi today, to make sure they were both in good health before their journey. Both procedures went very well and they are both in excellent condition.

Wang Wang's procedure was first and we were inundated by media - I have never seen so much interest! It was amazing, there were cameras, sound people and reporters everywhere! It was very different to Australian media and really showed just how much interest there is for pandas in China!

The pending departure really seems to be getting close now. I am ready to come home and show Wang Wang and Funi their new home. I am sure they will love it. It has been an amazing trip so far and there is still lots to happen before we leave.

Simone

Iam disgusted at the advertisement methods that buisnesses will go to, to promate thier products. I have just seen a heap of fake pandas dressed in artificatal clothing to promate their businesess. I find this discuguisting. The priveiage we have as a city is unbeiliveable and our local businesess think it is free adversisment.Just drop the product on the animals and they will sell. I would hate to think what would happen then, if the pope or someone of similer presence would treat us with a visit. The build up to it would all be buy this or buy that. I think that the buiness world of Adelaide would stop to think about the reason that the Pandas are here and for once think about someone else but the money they could be making. Maybe people wouldn't be so hard on them if they donated the money to the cause that they were advertiseing on rather than making the fat man fater or that richer man richer. There are many of us public that have followed the pandas for their whole lives and only want ther best for them and their species. This is a feeling of hope and for hope a species will survive, rather that making a quick dollar.

Panda cams and panda experiences
written by Ryan, November 30, 2009
The plan is to have live streaming web cams to view the pandas but the details of that are still being worked out.

Behind the Scenes panda experiences are being developed. If you want to know when they're available, follow us on Twitter or Facebook and we'll let you know as soon as they're available.

We held our collective breaths as we read about the general anaesthetics for Wang Wang and Funi and then breathed a sigh of relief that all is well with both pandas. Were they sleepy or did they suffer any reactions afterwards? There was lots of news coverage on all TV channels tonight...maybe not to the same extent as you are experiencing in China but excitement about your arrival back in Adelaide is certainly growing!
