Funi is really settling in to life at Adelaide Zoo. Watch her playing chasey, doing somersaults, or waiting for Simone to try to push her over!

My sister and I visited the Panda's at Adelaide Zoo on Monday 22 February. Whilst the enclosure is impressive, and it was great to get a good view of the Panda’s I do have some concerns particularly about crowd control.
It seems several hundred visitors can be allocated a given time slot - we were given the 10.45 am slot. The visitors line up in great anticipation and are told not to use flash photography and to be quiet.
The crowd surges in and within 5 to 10 minutes Funi was so stressed out by the excited crowd (racing around, and trying to climb the walls to escape) that the keeper had to remove her from the exhibition area.
A few suggestions that may assist:
Crowd control - 15 to 20 minutes is enough time to be in the Panda enclosure, so my not have 3 sessions / hour and limit each session to say 50 people? Each group could be instructed to split with half moving immediately to the Wang Wang side, and half to the nearer side with Funi. Any excessively noisy people or anyone using flash photography should be immediately removed from the enclosure.
The enclosure design – the building acoustics could be improved – it was a bit like a sound shell with the noise of the excited crowd amplified. Another suggestion is to have the public viewing area screened off by a bamboo fence with viewing holes for the public.

Simone, if you are too busy to give them a bath or play with them, please don't hesitate to contact me. I'll surely be happy to fill in.
